Little UN's Bug Catcher

Perhaps it's because the snow is never-ending this winter and spring does not seem to be "around the corner" or perhaps winter has been so long that little UN has forgotten all about fireflies. In either case, he decided for the month of February to get rid of his bug catcher (you may remember that littlest UN is on the monthly rather than weekly un-collecting plan).

At first the un-daddy and I put very little thought into his choice... mindlessly taking the catcher and heading off toward the pile of other stuff to be photographed. BUT, then it happened, that moment where no words are exchanged but you both know what the other is thinking...and we were thinking, "I don't want to get rid of little UN's bug catcher."

We know the sun will return, the air will warm, the bugs will sound-off again. We know this bug catcher has good life left. Oh dear, we want the little to let go of "stuff." We want to respect his decisions. What sort of message will this send if we say, "nah, let's keep this and pick something else?" Remember, he thought we ought to blog about food.

For now, the bug catcher has been granted a reprieve. Little UN is not in the loop on the decision yet. I think we'll let him in on this sometime in May. I doubt the discovery of the saved bug catcher will phase him emotionally...I wish I could find that level of detachment.
