Here's another one from the closet:My most favorite pair of shoes were my first plain black leather casual shoes. In college, I got them from the thrift store for $6 and we called them my 'dead man shoes'. They were made in China and were a brand called 'Red Bird' or something to that effect. I was sad when they finally wore out, but got a sweet pair of Doc Martens in their stead.
My usual footwear accoutrement: 1 pair brown shoes, 1 pair black shoes, 1 pair sandals, 1 pair nice sneakers, 1 pair worn sneakers (for yard work). I rotate the nice to the worn about every other year, but noticed with the last pair I got a good 4 years out of some $30 sale new balance. sweet.
So, I recently upgraded my 'nice' pair to some excellent runners and the pile in the closet got a bit big. So, I found myself with these that I no longer wear during my closet-cleaning a couple of weeks ago. The brown pair are Rockports, which were pro-ported to be the most comfortable pair of shoes, but weren't. As far as the pair of white new balance - I learned only too late in life I cannot wear solid leather tennies. Mesh only, as my feet simply sweat too much. Both pairs we attempted to sell on eBay, but no takers.
They both went to the same friend who got my rolling suitcase. I'm sure he finds favor with them.
At least he can't call them his 'dead man shoes'.
