Humpty Dumpty Still Broken

And all the kings horses and all the kings men could not put Humpty Dumpty back together again. Sometimes I feel like that...no matter what happens nothing can make something right again. This week has been busy and I've only been able to dig up these two un-related items to let go.

First is the light switch cover from my Humpty Dumpty themed bedroom some 40 years ago. There is something poignant in the fact that "some kid" ripped Humpty off and my mom, try as she might (and believe me she tried until I was about 14) could not put Humpty back on the wall. I use the quotes on "some kid" because I know the kid's name. My mom would tell the story over and over about how ill behaved "those" children were...like wild animals. Of course I don't want to risk a 40 year public humiliation at the outside chance any of you might know "some kid."

I'm guessing there's "some kid" in all of our lives...actually lots of "some kids." They show up and break things, hurt our feelings, hurt our childrens' feelings and it seems like nothing will make the world right. We suddenly understand Humpty Dumpty's problems.

The next item up for trash is a brass door plate that belonged to a grandfather I never met. He was a banker in California (married to the artist from the drawing tablets). He obviously had a good job to have a bolt-on brass name plate. Not sure any jobs are so permanent these days...not to mention the expense this would take just to mark the office territory of the employees. I've carted this thing around for years with no idea where it should go. There are no other relatives and I have no idea how to melt down brass or where I would sell such a thing if I did. So, into the trash it goes with Humpty's wall.

I was hoping that the box of bits and pieces would turn up the missing Humpty head (not that I was going to try to put it back together again) but no such luck. Perhaps as soon as I throw away the wall he will show. That's how it goes some days.
